Students from any country can apply. You will generally need a recognised academic qualification, evidence of English language ability, and sufficient funds to cover tuition and living costs. Requirements vary by university and course level.
For undergraduate entry you typically need A-levels or equivalent (e.g. FSc, Intermediate, CBSE). For postgraduate, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject is required. Foundation and pathway programmes are available if your qualifications do not meet direct entry requirements.
Yes, many UK universities accept students with a study gap. You will need to explain the gap clearly in your personal statement. FinRoute advisers can help you present this positively in your application.
For undergraduate programmes the minimum age is usually 17–18. Postgraduate students are typically 21 and above. Some foundation courses accept students from 16 with parental consent.
A previous refusal does not automatically disqualify you. The reasons for the refusal matter. Our advisers will review your history and advise on the best approach to strengthen a new application.
Most international students require a UK Student Visa (formerly Tier 4). To apply you need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your university, proof of English, and evidence of sufficient funds.
Standard processing is typically 3 weeks (15 working days). It is recommended to apply no more than 6 months before your course start date and no later than 3 months before.
You must show you can cover your tuition fees plus £1,334 per month for living costs if studying in London, or £1,023 per month outside London, for up to 9 months. Funds must have been held for at least 28 consecutive days.
Dependants (spouse/partner and children) can join you if you are studying at postgraduate level or above on a course lasting more than 9 months. Undergraduate students are generally not permitted to bring dependants.
You have the right to reapply. FinRoute will help you identify why your application was refused and work with you to address those issues before reapplying. We do not charge extra for reapplication support.
Consider factors such as course content, entry requirements, location, tuition fees, league table ranking, employability outcomes, and available scholarships. FinRoute advisers will match you to universities that suit your profile and goals.
Through UCAS (the UK undergraduate admissions service) you can apply to up to 5 universities per cycle. For postgraduate courses you can apply to as many universities as you like directly.
A foundation or pathway programme is a one-year preparatory course designed for international students who do not yet meet direct entry requirements. Successful completion guarantees or strongly supports progression to the first year of a degree.
The main intake is September. Some universities also offer January and May intakes, particularly for postgraduate programmes. We can advise on which intake best suits your situation.
It is possible but involves updating your CAS and notifying the Home Office. Your new course must be at the same level or higher. FinRoute can advise you through the process.
Both are widely accepted by UK universities. IELTS Academic is the most recognised. PTE Academic is computer-based and results are faster (usually within 5 business days). FinRoute is an official centre for both — speak to an adviser to decide which suits you.
Most undergraduate courses require an overall band of 6.0–6.5 with no sub-score below 5.5. Postgraduate courses typically require 6.5–7.0 overall with no band below 6.0. Requirements vary by university and course.
There is no limit on how many times you can take IELTS. You can retake the full test or use the IELTS One Skill Retake option to resit only the section(s) you need to improve.
No. IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, and Duolingo scores are valid for 2 years from the test date. Universities and the UK Home Office require a valid score at the time of application.
Some universities and the Home Office may waive the English test requirement if you completed a degree taught entirely in English in a qualifying country. Check with your adviser as the rules vary.
Tuition fees for international students range from approximately £10,000 to £38,000 per year depending on the university and course. Living costs average £12,000–£15,000 per year outside London and £15,000–£20,000 in London.
Yes. The UK government offers the Chevening Scholarship and Commonwealth Scholarships. Many universities also offer their own merit-based and country-specific scholarships. FinRoute will identify scholarships you may be eligible for.
Yes. On a UK Student Visa you are generally permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full time during official vacations.
Most universities allow payment in instalments — typically at the start of each semester. Some require full payment upfront. FinRoute will clarify the payment schedule for your chosen university before you apply.
